personally i skip the grunting part when im communicating online, but hey whatever it takes, right. anyway. technology is not religion, it is the antithesis of religion, it is populism distilled, but it quenches the same thirst in the human soul.

here is my sermon -=> www.grep-fu.net

your ancestors grunted. i assure you. i am waiting for the link to load. really, all we seem to be diverging on is the the definition of religion. religion, in my definition, is a place where i can step outside the limited space of my ego, and access the reality of a larger truth. access spirituality. and by that definition, music is religion. so is love. technology may be the antithesis of the catholic church, but the catholic church does not define my terms. if you think "religion" does not support the initial definition of this tribe, what would be an alternative tem that you resonate with?

i'm in china. link won't load. but i will read it as soon as i can.

whatever, religion is close enough. personally though semantics are a hobby and have nothing to do with the feeling i get when i'm getting the feeling, if you feel me. i'll argue petty definitions all damn night long because its fun but that indefinable x which you purport to have founded this tribe is something that becomes irrelevant as soon as you try to name it.
religion or whatever, in this sense, is kind of like rock music or techno music or whatever. you can talk about it all day in a record store, but the only time rock music is true rock music is at a rock concert, where it is much too loud to talk about rock music. imagine if technolgy wasnt technology unless you were too busy being technical to talk about being technical. perhaps i digress, but whatever. for me, it is living my life in a way that gives priority to those moments where i feel creatively enabled by technology, and in so doing every day lived in accordance with that becomes a litany of individual meaningless rituals of unassailiable purity. at least, thats my excuse for sleeping late and wasting time on the computer. what's yours?

my excuse for being online? no excuse. i live in beijing where it is now 5pm. i will log off, grab my iPod, and walk across town to catch a sunset possibly more vibrant due to the light refracting off pollution particles. [a pro-tech statement]. if you consider instigating conversations like this to be a waste of time, feel free to waste more of mine.

will do. how's the electronic music scene over there? unity vs disunity? does the gov't even allow such things? what styles are popular? is there lots of crossover between pop music and the underground? what kind of people are in the movement? what kind of sounds? how do they advertise them if they are illegal, etc? or do you even go in for this kind of thing?

hey pete, will you msg me directly? i'd like to preserve the integrity of each thread. being the moderator and all.

uhh whatever. i'll do that but i'll say for the public record that's ridiculous, as there is no threat to the intregrity of this thread. being a moderator dosen't mean you you need to do anything other than provide a forum, the people who use it will self-govern eventually, when it becomes necessary. any attempts at such before that time will end in failure.

I'd love to talk about China more, whether in a different topic or tribe or privately... if one is talking about technology and the future of the species, certainly China is highly relevant. (I was in Beijing for 10 days a few months ago)
