corporations own technology, so it is only reasonable that they are the ones driving the trends. and dont give me any populist bullshit about that either, it has been this way since the iron age. innovation is occasionally seen outside of large corporations but it is quickly corpratized if it is popular and manufacturable. so it is no surprise that the motivating force behind the gee-whiz techno-fetishry of our day and age is the same forces that sell those gizmos to you, or the people who sell to you. this is all of course relevant primarily to retail tech, military tech is a whole nother thread.
